Niall Moloney

Mayo food entrepreneur poised to become a Nissan Generation Next ambassador

A 27-year-old dietitian and food entrepreneur from Mayo is in the driving seat to become a Nissan Generation Next ambassador.

Niall Moloney from Claremorris, who has created Europe’s first high protein, low fat frozen yogurt, is now just one step away from landing the keys to a brand new taxed and insured Nissan to drive for a year having been named as one of 20 finalists put forward to the voting stage of the competition.

He was one of almost 1,000 people who applied to the innovative ambassador programme which helps people to follow their dream and to get ahead with the backing and support of Nissan.

Niall, who is a qualified dietitian and an expert in sports and exercise nutrition, created his business, Pow-Cow, after discovering that his clients, who include Connacht Rugby, Irish Olympians, inter-county GAA players and other professional athletes, were struggling to find an enjoyable healthy dairy snack or dessert.

“As a dietitian, I wanted to change the dairy industry by creating truly amazing tasting frozen and chilled products with a fantastic nutritional profile that help people to choose better food options and to live healthier, happier lives,” said Niall.

Pow-Cow is already listed in 80 stores across Ireland and is currently expanding to 150 stores nationwide. The business is also on course to begin exporting into the UK and the Middle East, and will be in 25 stores in Dubai by the end of the year.

“We are also working on launching Ireland’s first grab and go quark yogurt,” added Niall. “This is a truly amazing product with all the thick creamy texture you’d expect from an indulgent yogurt but with half the calories, sugar and fat and double the calcium. It is going to be a game-changer in the Irish dairy sector.

“I am thrilled to make it through to public voting phase of Nissan Generation Next. Every vote counts and I hope that the people of Mayo will support me and my business by voting online. I have big ambitions and securing the keys to a brand new Nissan would really help my business to realise its potential,” he added.

Local Nissan dealer, A. Cleary & Sons in Kiltimagh, are encouraging everyone to get behind Niall and to vote for him online at www.nissangenerationnext.ie before voting closes on July 14. The top seven vote-getters get to become Nissan Generation Next ambassadors, while the judges at Nissan will select the final three ambassadors for 2017.

“Niall exemplifies what Nissan Generation Next is all about. He is fearless about bringing his dreams and ambitions to life and making a success of his business. We are proud to support Niall and encourage everyone in Mayo to get behind him and to vote for him online,” said Paul Cleary, dealer principal at A. Cleary & Sons.
