The Gospel according to Marty

SPORTS commentator Marty Morrissey is to switch briefly from a GAA commentary box to a lectern in a Basilica next month.

The exuberant RTÉ personality has accepted an invitation to speak at Knock Basilica during the annual Knock Novena. 

Marty will speak on the theme of this year's Novena, 'Living Life to the Full'.

The Novena, which will run this year from Monday, August 14, to Tuesday, August 22. Annually, the Novena attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims.

Marty Morrissey will speak on Wednesday, August 16, at the 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. ceremonies.

Says a spokesperson for Knock Shrine: “Although best known for his career as a sports commentator, Marty is also known for his great sense of humour and infectious, upbeat, personality.â€

Sport will be the topic of choice on the day with workshops to be delivered by Fr. Kevin O'Gorman, author of 'Saving Sport: Sport, Society and Spiriituality.â€Â 

Other speakers invited to talk at this year's Novena include Dr. Mary Healy, international speaker on scripture and healing, Redemptorists Fr. Seamus Enright, CssR, and Fr. Michael Cusack, CssR.

One of the main highlights of the Novena will be on Monday, August 21, with the launch of the World Meeting of Families 2018 programme.
