Small Area Population Statistics (SAPS) now available for Mayo

THE Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today published the Small Area Population Statistics (SAPS) from Census 2016.

Deirdre Cullen, senior statistician, explained: “The Census 2016 Small Area Population Statistics provide detailed census results for 11 different geographical layers which include, among others, 31 administrative counties, 3,409 Electoral Divisions, 18,641 Small Areas and for the first time 95 municipal districts. The data is available for download or can be accessed via our on-line mapping tool.â€

Small Area Population Statistics contain 45 tables organised into 15 themes, covering topics such as sex, age and marital status, families, housing, education, commuting and occupation.

The accompanying interactive mapping and search tool, SAPMAP, allows users to search for and select an area of interest to get instant access to the full set of census statistics for that area. Data can also be downloaded in PDF or Excel format.

Ms. Cullen concluded: “Today's results are available for the full set of 18,641 Small Areas, each of which generally covers between 80-120 households. The results provide an in-depth picture of the social and economic conditions of every community in Ireland. This data is an important national resource and is easily accessible and freely available for all to use.â€
