The tattered Mayo flag at the Mall in Castebar

Call for replacement of tattered Mayo flag at prime location

A CALL has been made for the replacement of a tattered Mayo flag at a prime location in the county.

The flag was placed on a giant willow structure erected on the Mall in Castlebar earlier this year during special celebrations in the county.

But the green and red cloth has now become an eyesore because of deterioration due to wind and rain over several months.

A number of people contacted The Connaught Telegraph to highlight the matter in the hope that action will be taken.

Said one caller: 'The fact it is in such a prime location makes it look particularly bad in the eyes of locals and visitors alike.

'I don't think it would take very much to have it replaced sooner rather than later.'

A number of elected members of Mayo County Council have already been contacted about the matter, The Connaught Telegraph understand.

UPDATE: It has been indicated to The Connaught Telegraph today (Saturday) that the flag will be replaced on Monday.Â
