More than 1,700 Mayo students receive Leaving Cert results

THE Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has congratulated students in Mayo who receive their Leaving Cert results today.

Exactly 1,604 students sat the Leaving Cert in the County this year while 97 Mayo students sat the Leaving Cert Applied.

He stated: “I want to congratulate the more than 1,700 students in Mayo who get their results today as well as the teachers and parents who played such an important role in supporting them.

“Today is a big day for the Leaving Cert students and represents a stepping stone onto the next stage in their lives. This can be a time of celebration and indeed relief for students and their families as the results become available.

“As our economy emerges from a very difficult period, many new opportunities have opened up for young people, in the further education and training sector, including traineeships and apprenticeships, as well as in the third level sector.

“For those students who feel that they may not have done as well as they had hoped, all is not lost. Take time to look at all the options that are open to you and can lead you to your chosen career path.â€
