Status Yellow warning in place for Mayo

MET Éireann issued a rainfall warning for Mayo and there is a risk of spot flooding.

The warning comes as Hurricane Gert passes the US east coast. 

According to reports, the hurricane is expected to have lost strength by the time it gets close to Ireland, but it will still impact on Irish weather this weekend.

Met Éireann also has a Status Yellow warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim and Sligo which ends at 4pm tomorrow.

There will be heavy and thundery downpours giving rainfall totals of 30 to 40mm.

Saturday will be cloudy and cool with rain affecting the southwest during the late evening. There will be more rain Sunday, persistent and sometimes heavy near west and north coasts.
