Mellett's is west's best local

THE first regional awards for the Connaught area in the inaugural Irish Pub Awards took place in Maxwell’s Bar, Claremorris, last night (Tuesday).

Mayo had just one winner on the night, with the Best Local Pub Award, sponsored by Diageo, going to Mellett’s Emporium, Swinford, who now go through to the national finals.

The Irish Pub Awards are jointly presented by the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) and Licenced Vintners Association (LVA).

A series of seven regional events are taking place around the country to announce 56 finalists through all categories. The national awards ceremony will take place in RDS Concert Hall on November 8.
