Death of widely popular south Mayo GAA official

The death has occurred of Peter Tierney, Roose, Hollymount.

The deceased was chairman of Garrymore GAA Club.

In a tribute to him on its Facepage book, the club stated: “We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our club chairman and friend Peter Tierney who passed away peacefully at his home.

“Garrymore GAA Club wishes to express our sincere sympathies to his wife Bernie, daughters Christine, Kathy and Rachel, brothers Andy, John, Brendan, sisters Mary, Martina, Margaret and extended family.”

Many GAA clubs throughout Mayo have paid tribute to him on their social media platforms.

Peter is also survived by mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, ESB colleagues, neighbours and friends. He was predeceased by his son Martin.

His remains will be reposing at Garrymore Community Centre tomorrow (Sunday) evening from 5 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to St. Joseph’s Church, Carras.

Removal from his residence takes place on Monday to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Roundfort, for Requiem Mass at 3 p.m. with the funeral proceeding to Roundfort Cemetery.
