County town street enjoying a reversal of fortunes

THE regeneration of Ellison Street in Castlebar has taken a giant step forward.

The final touches are being put in transforming the former Flannelly's/Tansey's premises into a new discount store by Dealz.

A lot of activity is taking place at the building today, including the erection of signage.

A manager and staff have been appointed and the new shop is scheduled to open next Saturday week, November 25 - not Thursday, November 23, as earlier indicated.

Dealz is a chain of discount retail stores offering a range of general merchandise products, a significant number of which are at a fixed price.

From a local business point of view, it is encouraging to see a town centre street being given a new lease of life after years of decline.

The location in question was also a bus stop in years gone by.
