Castlebar Parish Magazine goes on sale

THE annual Castlebar Parish Magazine has gone on sale.

With a magnificent photograph of Market Day on Linenhall Street from the Fr. Mattie McNeely Collection on the front cover, it includes all the usual features that have made the publication such a popular read over the years with Castlebar people at home and abroad.

In his editorial, Joe Redmond makes the valid point that there is a great need for volunteers in many organisations in the town, charitable, sporting and other groups who are doing great work.

“Why not make a start to help out by giving a little of your time to the elderly, the lonely and those who are mourning the loss of a family member at this special time?”

Councillor Martin McLoughlin, cathaoirleach, Castlebar Municipal District, congratulated the parish magazine team for its outstanding work and dedication once again.

“The past year has seen signs of an upturn in the level of business in Castlebar after several years of recession , and that has been much welcomed. New businesses are opening their doors and there is a growing level of confidence,” he added.

The contributors include Alan King, Tommy Moran, Michael Mullen, Paddy Devaney, Herbie Glynn, Sean Rice, Johnny McCormack, Peter Killeen, Aiden Brett, Elaine Devereux, Johnny Mee, Jack Mellett, Pat Lynch, Sean Lyons, John Healy and Pat Quigley.

There is a marvellous collection of photographs as well as a list of all deaths, births and marriages during 2017.

At €7, it is not to be missed.
