Parents anxiously awaiting school announcements

PARENTS throughout Mayo are tonight anxiously awaiting news regarding primary and secondary school openings tomorrow.

A decision has already been taken in Westport to close all national schools in the town due to the dangerous road conditions.

However, other schools have delayed making a decision because a 'red weather alert' has not yet been issued by the Department of Education.

In Castlebar, St. Patrick's NS and St. Angela's NS are closed tomorrow while Davitt Coillege, St. Joseph's Secondary School and St. Gerald's College in the town open at 11.30 a.m.

Both the primary and secondary schools in Balla are closed. St. Louis Secondary School in Kiltimagh is closed as is Belcarra NS.

On its Facebook page, Castlebar Educate Together National School said if the position changes overnight, parents will receive a text message to notify them.

"Take you time in the morning and if you arrive late in these conditions, it is more than acceptable. We expect the yard, footpaths and area around the school to be icy," the statement added.
