School is alive with The Sound of Music
THE staff and students of Sancta Maria College in Louisburgh are into final rehearsals for their production of The Sound of Music.
School corridors have been filled with heart-warming renditions of ‘Edelweiss’ , ‘My Favourite Things’ and ‘Do-Re-Mi’, with students singing and dancing to the usual high standard of past musicals in Sancta Maria.
This is the first time this classic musical has been staged in Sancta Maria College, and it is a show which many students (and staff!) have longed to see on stage.
This year's TY group are looking forward to showing their talents in staging the show. The transition tears have worked tirelessly since Christmas designing the stage, painting back-drops, and constructing different props.
Stage manager Tara Needham and assistant Fenton McNally are both doing a fantastic job in diligently guiding the year group in their designated roles.
Ms. Marian Gill, in her sixth year as director, is excited to be involved in this well-known show: “It is wonderful to be involved in putting on stage such a classic musical, and one which many audience members will have fond memories of. The cast and TY students, as always, have worked so well, and are unfailingly enthusiastic and deserve to enjoy every minute of it.”
Ms. Keira Kennelly has joined the team this year and has done incredible work behind the scenes with the TYs, organising costumes, props, and with the overall production of the show.
For an unbelievable 23rd year, this year’s musical director is the well-renowned musician Mr. John Flately who has been working hard with the cast to perfect the songs and harmonies.
The show takes place from Thursday, February 1, until Saturday, February 3, in the Town Hall in Louisburgh. The show begins at the earlier time of 7.30 p.m., with doors opening at 6.30.
Tickets are available from the school, Durkan's Gala, Louisburgh, and Duffy’s Bookshop, Westport, and are already selling very quickly.
