Clean-up operation underway after fire in kitchen of Mayo hotel

A CLEAN-up operation is underway at the Ivy Tower Hotel in Castlebar after a fire damaged a kitchen area of the property this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene when the alarm was raised and the blaze was brought under control after a relatively short period.

A section of New Antrim Street has been closed as members of the Castlebar and Westport fire-fighting services are dealing with the aftermath of blaze at the rear of the premises.

An assessment is underway to establish the cause of the outbreak.

However, hotel management have stated that the hotel will be open for business later today with another kitchen area being used to prepare meals.

The former Welcome Inn Hotel reopened as the Ivy Tower Hotel last June after being closed for more than a year.
