Three arrested following garda car rammings

GARDAÍ in Co. Mayo have arrested three men following a high speed car chase during which two garda patrol cars were rammed early today (Wednesday).

Two garda officers received minor injuries as a result of one of the impacts, as did a number of male suspects who were arrested near the village of The Neale.

All of the injured received treatment at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, but were discharged later.

Members of the Armed Support Unit (ASU) were involved in the arrest operation.

A chase began in the early hours after a Skoda Octavia car was reported stolen from the Derrywash area, south of Castlebar.

In an initial chase, around 3 a.m., a garda patrol car was rammed on the Castlebar to Ballinrobe road near Ballyheane.

Aftera second patrol car joined the chase nearer to Ballinrobe that vehicle was also rammed.

Two of the three males arrested are in their early twenties. The third is a teenager.

All are being held for questioning at Castlebar Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
