Funding being sought to open Castlebar Tourist Office for summer months

CASTLEBAR Chamber of Commerce has underlined its commitment to opening the local tourist office for the summer months.

Wilson Bird, president, said steps are being taken to ensure funding is in place to have the facility operational at its Linenhall Street premises for the months of June, July and August.

He explained funds are not available at this time to have the office staffed for a longer period of time, but the busy summer weeks will be covered.

Mr. Bird welcomed the news that the Welcome Inn Hotel is due to reopen shortly after it was forced to close due to fire damage a number of weeks ago.

“Having spoken to all local hoteliers, I am confident that Castlebar will do well this summer from the home holiday market due to festivals and other attractions,” he added.

The Castlebar International Four Days Walks attracts the biggest number of visitors to the county town every year while Castlebar Concert Band is hosting a festival on the Saturday of the walks, June 30.

An Elvis Weekend is also planned for Castlebar in August and this is expected to bring great colour to the town.

Mr. Bird wished Love Castlebar every success with its two-day Love Lannagh Festival this weekend
