Bus Eireann 'not axing' Route 52 service from Erris to Galway

BUS Éireann has never stated any intention to ‘axe’ Expressway’s Route 52, according to a statement issued by the company today.

It read: “Current speculation and statements about the route – or transport links being cut – is both speculative and incorrect.

“The company are reviewing the route in conjunction with the NTA (National Transport Authority) to ensure any changes maintain ongoing connectivity in the region.

“This is likely to see an increase in the frequency of PSO route services in the area, and result in better public transport connectivity overall in the region in question.

“This plan will be finalised and communicated in the near future.”

Route 52 runs from Belmullet to Galway City and passes through Swinford and Kiltimagh.

In response to the announcement, Minister Michael Ring stated “I had been contacted by many people who had concerns that this service was going to be axed. Today Bus Éireann has stated that they never stated any intention to ‘axe’ Expressway’s Route 52.

"I have been advised that the company are reviewing the route in conjunction with the NTA (National Transport Authority) to ensure any changes maintain ongoing connectivity in the region.

"This is likely to see an increase in the frequency of PSO route services in the area, and result in better public transport connectivity overall in the region in question. This plan will be finalised and communicated in the near future.

“I welcome this update by Bus Éireann. Hopefully this will alleviate the concerns that people had. I am aware that the current service is sufficiently utilised and is used by many in the area."
