Smash and grab thief preyed on angler

A VISITING angler who tried his luck at catching trout on a scenic lake near Castlebar this week got a nasty shock when he returned to his parking spot to find his car had been burgled.

A sum of money as well a phone and personal documentation was in a bag which was snatched from the vehicle after a side window was smashed.

Gardaí are investigating the incident, which occurred at Bilberry Lake between 10 a.m. and 12 midday on Tuesday last (April 24).

Officers have re-issued their regular warning to motorists not to leave valuables in cars which are parked at scenic locations.
