Francis Brennan launches Specsavers Castlebar audiologists’ new campaign

FRANCIS Brennan has once again teamed up with the expert audiologists at Specsavers Castlebar to encourage the Irish public not to suffer in silence.

With one in six Irish adults affected by hearing loss, a shocking 69% of adults have not had their hearing tested in the last five years.

Despite the high statistic, the main reason people cited for not getting regular hearing tests is that they believed their hearing to be fine. However, hearing loss can be gradual and many people might not notice that they are struggling. Without treatment, hearing loss can lead to depression, frustration and anxiety.

Francis, who fronts RTÉ’s popular show At Your Service, was highlighting the importance of taking a proactive approach to hearing loss, as with today’s technology and expertise easily available at Specsavers Castlebar there is no need for people to suffer in silence.

Speaking about his involvement with Specsavers Audiologists, Francis said: ‘This is my second year working with the audiology experts at Specsavers as I truly believe in taking a proactive approach to hearing health. I don’t know what I’d do without my hearing. I rely on it so much, not only from a professional aspect working in TV and of course the hotel industry, talking to guests and staff, but also from a personal aspect. Friends and family are a huge part of my life. I’d be lost if I wasn’t able to hear their news and stories. It would be so lonely.’

Specsavers Castlebar audiologist Liz Ryan commented: ‘Specsavers recommends that those over the age of 55 should have their hearing tested every two years. Because of the slow progression of hearing loss, it frequently goes unnoticed and can take up to 10 years before the problem is identified.

“Untreated hearing loss can affect every aspect of life and lead to depression and social isolation, which is why early diagnosis is key. Identifying the problem early and addressing hearing loss with an expert can mean preserving the ability to communicate with friends and family well into later life. At Specsavers we encourage anyone who is concerned about their hearing to visit one of our expert audiologists for a free hearing test and professional advice.”
