Gardaí investigating sudden death in Charlestown

GARDAI investigating a sudden death in Charlestown have called in a State pathologist to carry out a post mortem investigation.

The body of the male, who is in his fifties, was discovered in a flat at Main Street. Charlestown this afternoon (Sunday).

It is understood the deceased, who was not a native of Mayo, had been living in the area for some time.

The scene has been preserved for an examination by garda technical experts has been started.

The remains have been removed to Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, for a post mortem examination which is expected to take place to tomorrow. 

Gardai say that this stage they are keeping an open mind on the circumstances of the death.
