Mayo Under 14 Gaynor Cup squad in Limerick.

Girls soccer teams back in action today

THE Mayo Under 14 and 16 girls footballers are back in action at the Gaynor Cup in Limerick today (Friday) as the group stages of the competition conclude, before the knockout stages at the weekend.

With both sides winning their opening matches yesterday, the Under 14s played their second game of the day, against Carlow, last evening.

Sarah McNamara hit the post in the first minute and this was to set the pattern of the match, which ended scoreless.

Mayo had balls cleared off the line and the Carlow 'keeper denied them on several occasions. In a rare breakaway near the end, Amy Dunleavy put in a lung-bursting recovery run to get a block in the box.

Mayo and Carlow are locked on four points at the top of Group C, with identical goal difference and head to head.
Inishowen are on three points and they are Mayo's opponents for the last group game this afternoon at 3 p.m.

Mayo's Under 16s start their day against South Tipperary at 11.30 a.m., and their final group game is against Cork at 6 p.m.
