Bank cash counters to stay open all day

THE cash counters at the Bank of Ireland in both Belmullet and Westport are to remain open all day.

Belmullet-based Councillor Gerry Coyle has confirmed that customers in both towns will, from September, be able to lodge and take out cash all day.

Councillor Coyle explained: “In July of last year the Bank of Ireland in both Belmullet and Westport closed their cash counters to the public at 12.30 each day. This resulted in a huge inconvenience to local people wishing to do their business, and to tourists visiting the areas.

Both myself and Minister Michael Ring have led the campaign against this and I am delighted to say that I have been informed today that the counter will remain open all day in both facilities so that people can get cash out, lodge cash and do their general business.

This is welcome news and I wish to praise the CEO of the Bank of Ireland, Ms. Francesca McDonagh, for letting common sense prevail in this case.”
