A proud occasion for the village of Fahy

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has officially opened Fahy Rovers AFC’s new soccer pitch.

During his time as Minister for Tourism and Sport, he allocated a total of €85,000 under the Sports Capital Programme towards the development of this new pitch.

Minister Ring said: “I am delighted to see the realisation of the community’s tireless work and the significant Government investment in this project.

“The end result is a beautiful, high quality pitch which the local community are extremely proud of. Fahy Rovers is a fantastic club which has provided a wonderful outlet and great life experience to people of all ages from the area since 1978.

“In what is the 40th year of the club, I am delighted to be able to share this occasion with them.

“Clubs like Fahy Rovers exist thanks to the hard work and dedication of local people. I am delighted that through the Sports Capital Programme, the government has been able to give the club the financial support needed.

“This will benefit the community for years to come and represents a great investment of Government funding. I wish all at Fahy Rovers AFC the very best for the next 40 years and beyond.”

Over 11,500 projects have now benefited from sports capital funding since 1998, bringing the total allocations in that time to over €971 million.

The programme has transformed the sporting landscape of Ireland with improvements in the quality and quantity of sporting facilities in virtually every village, town and city in the country. The facilities that were funded range from the smallest clubs to national centres of sporting excellence

A total €40 million has being made available under a new 2018 round of the Sports Capital Programme. The 2018 round of the Programme is open for applications until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 19.
