Sisters Michelle Feeney and Sharon Dillon

Mayo sisters plan 150ft. Croke Park abseil for MS

Mayo interest in Croke Park may have been cut short in 2018.

But on Saturday, October 20, two brave Mayo ladies will reach heights that no Mayo team has reached at the GAA stadium.

Castlebar sisters Sharon Dillon and Michelle Feeney will drop 150 feet from the Hogan Stand scoreboard to the hallowed turf below in order to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland’s local south Mayo branch.

Sharon, a busy working mother of twins, was diagnosed with MS 15 years ago and she does not allow living with the condition dictate her achievements. Michelle has previously trekked in Peru and Cuba to raise funds for MS Ireland.

MS is a chronic neurological condition that attacks the central nervous system. It has no definitive progression pattern and there is no known cure. There are treatments available that can help relieve symptoms and slow the progress of the disease.

Sharon and Michelle had been hoping to complete the abseil in June but, due to the unpredictable nature of MS, they had to postpone it until October. This was because Sharon had a relapse and has had to spend the summer concentrating on her health and starting a new treatment regime.

The girls are hoping to raise as much as possible to divide between the local South Mayo Branch and Multiple Sclerosis Ireland.

The money raised will be used to provide much-needed services for people living with MS, both locally and nationally.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Sharon and it can be found at www.gofundme.com/abseil-for-ms.

The girls are extremely grateful for all the support they have received to date and accept all donations with gratitude.
