All you need to know about buying a new house in Mayo
A unique alliance of property, finance, architecture and law comes together at an open evening in Castlebar tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harlequin Hotel and all are welcome.
The talk entitled – “Dream of Building or Buying your New Home…..?” is primarily aimed at first time buyers in Co. Mayo or people planning to build their own home on family lands or acquired sit.
The Ulster Bank are supporting the event.
Caroline Costello, Manager of the Ulster Bank, Castlebar will address the gathering on various aspects of the mortgage application process, tips for getting “mortgage ready” and she will highlight the current offers available from Ulster Bank.
Kevin Beirne of Kevin Beirne Auctioneers in Castlebar will address the meeting on the value in property out there at present and the options available to first time buyers or couples looking to build on family lands.

“The purpose of this event is to set out for purchasers as to what is involved in the auctioneering process. There is great value out there and I have found a increased interest since the start of the new year” said Kevin.
Danny Moran of Danny Moran & Associates, Architect and Surveyor, Castlebar, will provide an update and perspective on the night in respect of planning permission including the work and input that people may need from an architect. He will also discuss the importance of good design in respect of single houses.
“I set out design considerations, site selection criteria, planning and environmental matters, and construction options for one-off housing. I will also provide an overview of the procedures and services in respect of self builds which are available from a registered architect.”
Solicitor John Geary of J.V. Geary Solicitors, Castlebar will speak on the night and outline the various steps involves in the mortgage process from the legal perspective. He will advise on the stage payment mortgage for self-builds and one off purchases of property.
“I will provide a legal overview of what is involved in building your own home or acquiring a second hand property; what to look out for and what to avoid and discuss the legal issues that can arise.”
