Work to start on replacing Ballindine water mains

RESIDENTS and businesses in Ballindine will enjoy a more reliable supply of drinking water following a programme of works by Irish Water which will see the replacement of 1.9 kilometres of ageing water mains and service connections.

The works are due to commence on April 23 and are expected to be completed by the end of June.

The project will be delivered by Mayo County Council on behalf of Irish Water as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Commenting on the project, Dave Murphy, regional lead for the Leakage Reduction Programme, said: “Replacing these ageing water mains will not only reduce the high levels of leakage, but it will also improve the reliability of water supplied to businesses and residents. We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their cooperation as we work together to deliver these improvements and Mayo County Council for their continuing efforts in delivering this programme of works.”

The section of works will take place on the L1510 Scardaune Road, west of Ballindine. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customer’s water supply.

Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.

Traffic management may be in place during this time and there may be local diversions in place for the duration of the works. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
