dailUp to last week I always felt I had a lot of leeway when writing for this column. The political situation was fairly predictable. The people in ministerial positions usually wouldn't change from week to week. The only thing that changed from week to week was the amount of money we owed. It usually increased by the day. At one stage it increased by at least €50 million per day everyday so it was difficult for me to give

bertie ahernAs the dust settles after a hard or easily fought out political battle, will it be the start of a new beginning? Enda Kenny has put his new government in place, so things can only get better. They couldn't have got any worse mainly because the outgoing government didn't know where they were going, what they were doing or where the next bailout would come
