father vincent sherlockI'm probably right (though possibly wrong) in claiming that Pope Benedict doesn't personally know the parish priest of Kilmovee, Fr. Vincent Sherlock. I'm certain, however, the Holy Father would approve of the way he is wholeheartedly using the Internet to promote the Gospel message.

monsignor james horan charlie haugheyOur own beloved Monsignor James Horan certainly knew how to 'butter up' influential people, the State papers for 1980, which were released last week, indicate. The canny cleric, who was drawing up plans at the time for an airport at Knock, wrote to the then Taoiseach, Charles Haughey, in 1980 and told him he was doing a "magnificent job".

tommie gormanRTÉs Northern Editor, Tommie Gorman delivered the John Healy Memorial Lecture at the John Healy Weekend 2010 in Charlestown on Friday. He gave some revealing insights into the operation and eventual demise of The Western Journal, the paper which Healy co-founded. He also spoke about the relationship which existed in the sixties and seventies between Healy and a very influential politician at the time, who was later to become Taoiseach, Charles Haughey.
