Big guns set to meet in championship semifinals

BREAFFY and holders Ballintubber seem destined to meet in the Mayo senior football championship semi-final following the draw for the quarterfinals, which was made last night (Thursday).

Castlebar, should they progress past Aghamore in the quarterfinal, will take on the winners of Kiltane and Knockmore.

In the intermediate championship, Westport - strong favourites for the title - drew Belmullet, while Bohola-Moy Davitts and Kiltimagh meet in the derby tie, with The Neale versus Burrishooole another inriguing quarterfinal. Parke have a tough one against Hollymount-Carramore, another of the fancied sides to lift the title.

In the senior relegation playoffs, Ballinrobe face Claremorris in a south Mayo derby, while Ballyhaunis, intermediate champions last year, take on Shrule-Glencorrib.

The intermediate relegations playoffs see Cill Chomain face Bonniconlon and Islandeady play Tourmakeady.

The senior draw is as follows: A. Kiltane v Knockmore; B. Breaffy v Garrymore; C. Ballintubber v Ballina; and D. Castlebar v Aghamore. In the semi-finals, the winners of A will play the winners of D and the winners of B will play the winners of C.

The intermediate championship quarterfinal draw is: A. Westport v Belmullet; B. Bohola-Moy Davitts v Kiltimagh; C. The Neale v Burrishoole; and D. Hollymount-Carramore v Parke-KC. As in the senior championship, it's A v D and B v C in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in the junior A quarterfinals, Ardagh face Ballintubber B, Killala play Crossmolina B, Achill take on Louisburgh and Ardnaree square up to Ballina B in a what's sure to be a hotly contested town derby.

The junior B draw is: Breaffy B v Hollymount-Carramore B, Bohola-Moy Davitts B v Claremorris B, Ardnaree B v Ballycastle, and Davitts B v Knockmore B.

The junior C draw is: Ballycastle B v Kiltane B, Moygownagh v Louisburgh B, Burrishoole B v Castlebar C, and Bonniconlon B v Kiltimagh B.
