Mayo gaa divisions deepen

DIVISIONS have widened between the Mayo senior football squad and the county board over the no confidence vote in the senior team’s management structure, The Connaught Telegraph has learned.

An estimated 25 members of the Mayo senior football panel attended a meeting with county board representatives at McHale Park in Castlebar last night.

But the fact it lasted less than a quarter of an hour suggested little progress was made.

It had been originally expected that only two representatives of the players, captain Keith Higgins and vice-captain Cillian O’Connor, would attend.

But, in a display of solidarity, up to 25 players turned up.

It is unclear whether or not the reasons for the no confidence vote were outlined to the board members, but it would be a surprise if they were not.

No statements were issued afterwards by the board or the players, leaving the controversy to linger on until a county board meeting is called.
