Trophy-laden Mountney makes a visit home to Bohola

DECORATED Dundalk FC midfielder John Mountney returns to his native Bohola this weekend – and he's bringing plenty of silverware with him.

As as the SSE Airtricity League and FAI Cup trophies, Mountney will also have the President's Cup and Leinster Senior Cup with him when he meets the public in The Village Inn this evening (December 12) and tomorrow afternoon (December 13).

Mountney joined the Co. Louth side in 2012 from Mervue United and signed a new contract towards the end of the 2015 season - just reward for a hugely successful campaign in which he made the most appearances out of all the squad.

He came off the bench in the FAI Cup final and helped turned the tide in Dundalk's favour as they eventually did enough in extra time to beat Cork City, completing the double in the process.

In 2012, Mountney helped Dundalk stave off relegation and under manager Stephen Kenny he has become an integral part of the team which finished runners-up in 2013, with two league titles coming in 2014 and again this year.

The midfielder has also featured on the club’s European front in the past two seasons, playing a crucial role in those successes, and will now continue that in 2016 in what will be his fifth season at the club.

John played underage football with Kiltimagh/Knock United and won a Mayo Super League title with Ballina Town before moving to the League of Ireland with Mervue United.
