Big move for Gary

A MAYO man has earned a transfer from Championship side Reading to Premier League giants Manchester United.

But it's not for his performances on the field of play that Gary Sweeney, from Bangor, is making the move.

Instead, Gary is joining the renowned Manchester club as a first team recruitment analyst, which means he will be working to recruit players to the first team at Old Trafford.

His role at Reading FC was similar but confined to the academy teams.

A graduate of IT Carlow, where he studied sport and exercise (soccer) to BA level, Gary has been with the Berkshire club since July 2013.

Now the former Bangor Hibs player hopes to make his mark on one of the giants of world football, where he'll rub shoulders with the likes of Louis van Gaal (for now at least!) and Ryan Giggs at a Lancastrian Theatre of Dreams.
