Ryan O'Donoghue on target in Ireland's win over Scotland

ERRIS schoolboy Ryan O'Donoghue was one of the Irish goalscorers in their 3-1 victory over Scotland in the Centenary Shield.

A student at Our Lady's Secondary School, Belmullet, O'Donoghue scored the second goal for the Republic of Ireland Schools team in Killarney last night (Thursday) against their Scottish counterparts.

Further goals from Conor Kane and Jamie Aherne sealed the win by half-time, although Bradley Manson pulled one back late on for the visitors.

Just 12 minutes had been played when Kane, representing Lucan CBS, opened the scoring with a cool finish and that set the tone for the attack-minded approach from the hosts.

On 42 minutes, O'Donoghue broke free to blast in the second goal, and just before the break Confey College student Aherne added the third from the penalty spot.

The three-goal advantage stayed intact all the way until the 73rd minute when Manson scored for Scotland.

The win was much deserved for Ireland and one that they can take a lot of confidence from due to their positive style of play and clinical finishing.

The Republic of Ireland play their final game in the Centenary Shield away to Wales on Thursday, April 28. England have already won the series but Ireland are in the hunt to finish in second place.
