Mayo athlete on Ireland team for transplant games

KIDNEY transplant recipient Matthew McNeive from Claremorris has joined Transplant Team Ireland.

At 18, Matthew is the youngest member of the 29-strong team that will take part in the European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships in Vantaa, Finland, this summer.

The games take place from July 7 to 18 and will involve close to 500 participants from 25 countries throughout Europe. Every athlete at the games will either have already received a kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas or bone marrow transplant or be on dialysis.

As part of the team's preparation, Matthew attended a motivational talk by Dublin GAA All-Star Alan Brogan at ALSAA Sports Complex, Dublin.
