Big race in Ballina

THE 2017 River Moy Half-Marathon takes place on Saturday (May 13), starting from and finishing at Ballina Rugby Club on Creggs Road.

The cost of entry is €35 until today (Thursday, May 11) to encourage people to sign up online before race day itself. Late entries after today cost €45 - and be aware that late entries are not guaranteed a technical top.

“We’re expecting a brilliant atmosphere as family members, friends and supporters will be able to see competitors throughout the course,” said the organisers.

The half-marathon route is relatively flat, with just a few challenging hills along the way. Most of the route is on road either side of the banks of the River Moy, but just over one mile of the course takes participants through Belleek Woods.

This section has an excellent trail surface that is used daily by local runners and walkers in all types of weather.

“As one of the most scenic and enjoyable running events in the west of Ireland, taking in stunning river views and the magnificent Belleek Woods, this is a great day not to be missed by runners everywhere,” the organisers added.

The event, which starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, is open to entrants aged 18 and over. For more information see rivermoymarathon.ie.
