Big guns to fire in championship showdown

ALL the big guns will be primed as both the Mayo senior and intermediate championships reach the knockout stages this weekend.

The senior pairings make for some intriguing battles, with defending champions Castlebar Mitchels and Knockmore down to meet on Saturday evening in Ballina.

Ballina, who took the scalp of the champions to top their group at the weekend, travel to Charlestown on Sunday for their quarterfinal clash with Garrymore.

Breaffy, who had a huge win over Ballaghaderreen, take on Claremorris, while Ballintubber and Hollymount-Carramore complete the fourth quarterfinal line-up.

The intermediate championship is also set for some fascinating games, with four quarterfinals also down for decision. There are also a number of relegation issues to be sorted this weekend.

The county junior A final is fixed for MacHale Park on Sunday, with John Maughan managing Lahardane who take on Kilmaine.

The minor A final will also be played in Castlebar where Westport are odds-on favourites to defeat Balla.
