Kellee Crean

Basketball ace Kellee Crean is in a class of her own

THE CONNAUGHT TELEGRAPH YOUNG SPORTSTARS OF THE YEAR NO. 1:

KELLEE Crean from Charlestown was the unanimous choice for the January award for her exploits on the basketball court for her college.

The 17-year-old played a pivotal role in securing both the Irish Under-19 Schoolgirls' Basketball Cup and League double with St. Joseph's Community College where Kellee and a number of her teamates sat their Leaving Certificate last year and moved on to third level, where, no doubt, we will see Kellee feature on the basketball court.

She played a crunch semi-final game with a her thumb in a strap but still managed to make an impact in getting her team over the line.

Crean's leadership, her strengh and scoring power under the boards and her ablity to read the game were to prove critical attributes in helping her school reach the final in the first place and ultimately secure the title when they defeated Colaisete Ide An Daingean (36-25).

The presentation of awards takes place at Breaffy House Restort on Friday night, February 16.
