Kiltimagh GAA Club to host Solo For Moses fundraiser

ON Saturday, July 18, Darragh Sloyan’s many friends in Kiltimagh GAA Club will be running a fundraising event in the support of the Sloyan Family Support.

The event is called Solo for Moses and it will involve players from the club's men’s and ladies’ senior teams soloing a ball over a route of just over 5km, every hour on the hour, for 24 hours.

Anyone wishing to support the family should do so through the dedicated Facebook/Instagram page or through the website directly at https://www.idonate.ie/5373_the-sloyan-family-support.html.

If people are unable to contribute that way, they can donate through the club on the day and the club will pass any money collected on to the fund. However, it is important to stress that it is open to everyone to participate in this event, regardless of whether they are in a position to contribute or not.

Darragh was a very valued member of Kiltimagh GAA Club but he also played senior football with Castlebar Mitchels and then, when the family settled in Breaffy, that became the family’s club and his children are proud members of Breaffy GAA Club. All in Kiltimagh, Mitchels and Breaffy and, indeed the wider GAA community, have fond memories of Darragh who was a larger than life character both on and off the field and very popular with all who knew him.

All three clubs are supporting the Sloyan Family Support effort and they will all be coming together to run events in support of this over the next couple of months.

The Solo for Moses, while being organised by Darragh’s friends and teammates in Kiltimagh GAA Club, is very much a community event and the club hope that as many people as possible from the community in Kiltimagh and beyond will participate on the day, whether it is to solo, run, stroll or walk along the route. It will be running from 12 noon on Saturday until 12 noon on Sunday so there will be plenty of opportunity to join in.

The only thing they ask, in order to ensure that proper social distancing is maintained at all times, is that you contact either Ronan Malee (087) 7644489, Conor Heneghan (085) 1428450 or Eoghan Lavin (086) 3560564 in advance to let him know that you intend to take part so you can be given a suitable slot as they need to make sure that there won’t be too many people out at any one time.

Already a number of businesses have offered to sponsor some of the hourly slots. If you cannot participate and you would like to sponsor a slot and, perhaps, nominate someone to do the route on your behalf, please contact either Ronan Malee or Shane Gilmartin.

Finally, this event should be a lot of fun but it is important to remember the reason why everyone is getting together and that is to remember Darragh and support his family. So, if you can, please contribute - any contribution, no matter how small, will be very much appreciated.
