Spraoi an tSamhraidh 2020
Gaeilge Iorrais is organising a series of Irish language activities for young people living in the north Mayo Gaeltacht area as part of a new pilot scheme.
Fun-filled activities as Gaeilge which are planned for August include laethanta spraoi in Coláiste UISCE, an all-Irish summer camp for children attending Gaeltacht scheme schools in Erris, and adventure activities for teenagers undertaking some or all of their education as Gaeilge.
Laoise Ní Dhúda, Gaeilge Iorrais, outlined the overall aim of these activities: “We hope to create opportunities and incentives for local young people to practice and use their Irish in an enjoyable social setting and to increase Irish language use among these young people over time.”
All events will be free of charge but spaces are limited, based on an Irish language policy, and you must register in advance.

Gaeilge Iorrais is running other events for households over the summer as part of a series of all Gaeltacht initiatives in partnership with language planning officers and Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta.
Over 25 people from 15 different families have recently completed Maratón na dTeaghlach in the north Mayo Gaeltacht, which involved walking or running a distance of 42km over four weeks. Every person that completes this challenge in Erris will be presented with a certificate and Maratón hoodie for their endeavours. Bualadh bos mór dóibh go léir.
#TóraíochtTaisce don Teaghlach is also ongoing at the moment. This is an Irish language treasure hunt with a difference, designed to encourage parents and children to discover the hidden gems in their area. Further information is available at https://forms.gle/fhEUsWwyPRGEKuqw7.
