Goals galore in the opening round of the women's league

THERE were plenty of goals and entertainment in the opening round of the Mayo Women's League, with Castlebar Town and Manulla the big winners on Saturday evening.

Castlebar Town ran out 9-3 winners over Conn Rangers, with Anna Tuohy claiming a hat-trick for the hosts as well as a double for Melissa Devaney and a goal each for Danielle Caldwell, Belinda Patterson, Kathleen Conway and a penalty from Chloe Morley, with Alva Munnelly and a double for Leah McHugh (one from a penalty) netting for the visitors.

It was a momentous day for Kiltimagh Knock United, who fielded their first senior women's team in a decade and a half. But a very impressive Manulla side would leave CMS Park with the three points courtesy of 4-1 win, with strikes by Aoife Brennan, Emma Cosgrave and a brace from Saibh Larkin, with Shauna Golden netting Kiltimagh Knock's sole reply.

In the second round of fixtures, Castlebar Town welcome Kiltimagh Knock on Saturday evening while Manulla take on Conn Rangers on Monday night (August 10). Both games are down for kick-off at 7 p.m.
