Details for Connaught senior football championship announced

The dates, times and venues for the 2020 Connaught Senior Football Championship have been officially confirmed.

Mayo, looking to win their first Nestor Cup since 2015, will be kicking off their championship campaign on Sunday, November 1, when they make the trip to Carrick-on-Shannon to face Leitrim in Avantcard Páirc Sean Mac Diarmada, with a throw-in time of 1.15 p.m.

The following weekend (November 7/8) sees the semi-finals down for decision. The winners of the Leitrim v Mayo clash will face Roscommon on Sunday, November 8, in Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon with throw-in at 1.30 p.m..

The other semi-final takes place the day before and sees Galway play Sligo in Pearse Stadium, Salthill, with throw-in at 1.15 p.m.

The final takes place the Sunday after (November 15). Throw-in is at 1.30 p.m. with the venue set to be confirmed at a later date.

Should Mayo claim their first Connaught title in five years, they will meet the winners of the Munster championship in the All-Ireland semi-finals on Sunday, December 6.

The All-Ireland football final will be played on Saturday, December 19.

ALLIANZ LEAGUE DETAILS CONFIRMED

But before all that, Mayo's first game back in action will be the Allianz National Football League clash against Galway at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 18.

The game, which is the sixth round of the resumed League campaign, takes place at Tuam Stadium and will be broadcast live on TG4.

Mayo's hopes of playing in Division 1 next season are firmly in the balance and anything less than a victory over their rivals will more than likely see them playing Division 2 football in 2021.

Mayo's league campaign will conclude the following week in Elverys MacHale Park when they take on Tyrone.
