Hammer blow for Mayo as star forward is hit by new injury setback

By Aiden Henry

THERE is bad news for Mayo GAA supporters with reports that Jason Doherty is sidelined again after picking up what is believed to be another cruciate injury at training.

The results of a scan is awaited.

The Burrishoole clubman had made a magnificent return to the playing field for his club in the Mayo intermediate championship in August after he had suffered a cruciate ligament tear against Donegal in the 2019 All-Ireland championship play-off in McHale Park, Castlebar.

The Mayo star had worked extremely hard to get back playing.

This hard work seemed to have paid off as Doherty showed he was back to his best with very impressive performances for his club.

He was expected to play a major part in Mayo’s forthcoming two crucial National League games and Connaught championship.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that Doherty’s latest cruciate injury is not in the same knee that left him sidelined for almost 12 months.

It is a significant loss ahead of Mayo’s massive and crucial games in the coming weeks and a huge blow for the player himself.
