Former player is new presenter of TG4’s Peil na mBan Beo coverage

The TG4 Ladies Football Championship, in association with the LGFA, will be back on TV screens soon.

As always, TG4 will be in the thick of the action, broadcasting nine live games, including the junior, intermediate and senior finals.

There will a new face on TG4's Peil na mBan Beo coverage this year, with former Galway star and TG4 analyst Máire Ní Bhraonáin fronting the station's live broadcasts.

Máire is a presenter, commentator, analyst and secondary school teacher. She born and raised in Milltown, in north Galway, and at nine years of age she began playing football with her local club. She made her Galway senior championship debut in 2011 against Dublin. Achievements include three Connaught titles, one minor All-Ireland title, one Under 16 All-Ireland title, and two All-Ireland Club 7s titles.

Graduating from Trinity College in 2010 in Modern Irish and Drama Studies, she completed her PDE in NUIG in 2013. A love of music has always been in the family and she plays the fiddle, piano and tin whistle.

The opportunity to begin working with Spórt TG4 and Nemeton came in 2011. Máire also contributes regularly to radio programmers on RTÉ RnaG, BBC Gaeilge and Newstalk, and presented C.L.U.B with Diarmuid Lyng in 2018.

On fronting Peil na mBan Beo, Máire said: “Sport plays a prominent role in our lives. For the past 20 years, TG4 has been instrumental in promoting and developing Peil na mBan. Having worked as an analyst on Peil na mBan Beo since 2011, I am thrilled to be presenting the 2020 Peil na mBan Beo Championship.”

She will be joined by analysts Rena Buckley, the Cork legend who has won the senior championship 11 times, Sorcha Furlong, who was a leading figure in Dublin's breakthrough win of 2010, and Michelle Ryan, one the game's most experienced players who starred for Waterford from 2001 to 2019.

TG4's coverage begins with a big weekend in Cavan, with live coverage of Armagh v Tyrone under Friday night lights on October 30, quickly followed by champions Dublin against Donegal on Saturday, October 31. Peil na mBan Beo is produced by Nemeton TV.
