GAA minor competitions postponed until further notice

The GAA has announced that following clarification from the Department of Sport around the staging of inter-county fixtures, all minor and Under 20 inter-county competitions are paused until further notice as of midnight tonight.

Mayo were due to get their Connacht GAA Electric Ireland Minor Championship campaign underway on Thursday, October 29, against Sligo at the semi-final stage. That game was scheduled to be played at the Connaught GAA Centre of Excellent in Bekan.

The first game in the championship was fixed for this Friday, October 23, between Leitrim and Galway, a quarterfinal clash, with the winners due to play Roscommon in the second semi-final on Friday, October 30.

The final was pencilled in for Friday, November 6, at the Connacht Centre of Excellence.

Also postponed is Saturday’s scheduled EirGrid GAA Under 20 football final meeting of Galway and Dublin, although this evening’s Bord Gáis Energy Leinster Under 20 hurling fixtures will proceed.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport today, Galway GAA County Board chairman Pat Kearney said there must now be question marks over the minor championship this year.

Meanwhile, the GAA's CCCC has been informed that Longford will not be fulfilling their Allianz Football League Division 3 fixture with Cork this weekend. It means that Down have been promoted to Division 2 along with Cork.
