Tipp remain underdogs for semi-final clash with Mayo

Connaught champions Mayo are hot favourites with the bookies to reach the All-Ireland final next month.

Tipperary, the newly crowned Munster champions, stand in their way but while the Premier County's chances of repeating their All-Ireland success of 100 years ago have been cut, they remain underdogs for Sunday week's encounter with Mayo in Croke Park.

BoyleSports have trimmed Mayo into 2/9 from 2/7 for their last four clash, with Tipperary rated as 4/1 shots to cause another upset and reach their first All-Ireland football final for 100 years after claiming their first Munster title since 1935.

While Leinster and All-Ireland champions Dublin remain the team to beat, Mayo are being recognised as the Metropolitans' main danger as 10/3 second favourites to end their 69-year wait for All-Ireland honours.

Ahead of yesterday's Munster final, Tipperary were 50/1 shots for Sam Maguire and while they have shortened into 33/1, they remain outsiders of the remaining quartet, along with Cavan, while Dublin are now hot 1/4 shots to make it six-in-a-row next month.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “This semi-final is gearing up to be the most competitive of the two, but support for another Tipperary shock is thin on the ground so far.

“Mayo are attracting all the early money at 2/9 from 2/7 and the odds, unsurprisingly, are hotly in favour of another final showdown with the Dubs.”
