Passing of member of popular Castlebar family

The death has occurred of Philomena Duffy (née Cannon), Rathbawn Road, Castlebar.

She passed away peacefully earlier today, surrounded by her loving family, in the care of the wonderful staff at the Galway Clinic.

A member of a popular and widely respected family which has had a long association with the motor trade in Castlebar, news of her death has evoked an immense sense of loss in the town where she was held in very high regard, having served for many years on the nursing staff of Mayo University Hospital.

Predeceased by her husband Cathal, she is survived by her daughters Fionnuala, Mary and Niamh, sons Cathal, Iarla and Ciarán, son-in-law Padraig, daughter-in-law Regina, grandchildren Barry, Maeve, Claire, Katie, Kara, Cathal, Conor, Éabha, Róisín, Conal, Dearbhla, Ríona, Tiernan, Caoimhín, Sarah and Charles, great-grandchildren Cleo, Stella, Seán and Milo Kevin, brother Anthony, nieces, nephews, members of the extended Cannon and Duffy families, her neighbours and many friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Removal takes place from Coady's Funeral Home on Saturday at 10.45 a.m. for Requiem Mass in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, at 11.30 a.m.

Burial takes place afterwards in Aughagower Cemetery.

In accordance with government and HSE guidelines and in the interest of public health, the funeral is restricted to family members.
