Call for investigation into Westport river foam concerns

An investigation is expected to take place into why the Carrowbeg River in Westport was covered in foam yesterday.

Local people who enjoy walking along the waterway were shocked when they made the discovery.

The presence of foam suggested it may have been caused by a detergent - but the reason has yet to be established.

The incident has prompted concerns over fish life in the river.

Local Councillor Christy Hyland confirmed receiving a number of complaints about the matter from concerned citizens and is seeking a full investigation into the matter by Mayo County Council.
