South Mayo athlete on Irish squad for World Relay Championships

Mayo's Sarah Quinn has been included on the Irish team for the World Athletics Relay Championships in Poland early next month.

The St. Colman's South Mayo AC athlete will be a part of the 4 x 100m squad alongside Molly Scott, Joan Healy, Sarah Lavin, Kate Doherty and Niamh Whelan.

Gina Akpe Moses and Aoife Lynch have been named as non-travelling reserves.

World Athletics confirmed the invitation of not just the Ireland's women's 4 x 100m team, but also the mixed 4 x 400m team for the upcoming World Athletics Relays Silesia21. The competition will be held in Poland on May 1 and 2. The mixed team features athletes of the calibre of Phil Healy and Thomas Barr

Ireland have also named a quality squad to compete in the mixed 4 x 400m event, including Phil Healy and Thomas Barr, as well as Chris O'Donnell from North Sligo AC.

A top eight finish at the World Athletics Relays Silesia21 for either of the squads guarantees Olympic qualification. A top 10 finish in the women's 4 x 100m or top 12 finish in the mixed 4 x 400m at this event would ensure qualification for the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022.

Travel to this event during the ongoing pandemic remains subject to government approval and the prevailing Covid-19 situation in Poland prior to departure.
