Call to address summer overgrowth of reeds at scenic Mayo lake

THE issue of overgrown vegetation in Castlebar's Lough Lannagh has been highlighted ahead of the summer months.

Local Councillor Michael Kilcoyne spoke to representatives of Inland Fisheries Ireland about the matter.

Come July there will be a huge amount of overgrowth and reeds in the lake, five to six feet on each side and maybe more, he said.

And every year there is a battle about getting them cut, and doing so before they seed and increase even more.

He asked IFI to look at the situation and see how it can be done on an annual basis.
