New north Mayo school project moves to tender

THE proposed new Scoil Naomh Brid National School in Culleens, Ballina, has been approved to move to tender this week, Deputy Dara Calleary has confirmed this morning.

Last week Deputy Calleary reported that the department had confirmed that the major building project planned for Culleens NS was at an advanced stage of architectural planning - Stage 2b detailed design, which included securing planning permission, fire certificate and disability access certificate and the preparation of tender documents.

“I am delighted to now announce that the project has progressed to Stage 3 – tender,” he confirmed.

Said Deputy Calleary: “The new multi-million euro project will comprise of a 2,469 sqm single storey building of 12 classrooms, a special education unit, on-site parking provisions, landscaping, boundary treatments, site works and ancillary services.

“I have been working with school principal Clair Cooke and her board of management for a number of years now and the provision of a new school at Culleens was one of my election priorities last year.

“I am delighted that we are moving to tender stage and I want to warmly congratulate the principal, her staff, parents and pupils of the school who have kept the matter on the agenda.

“This is a good day for Culleens National School, the school catchment area and for Ballina – we now look forward to the contract being awarded and to works commencing.”
