Mayo TD welcomes return of GAA supporters to games

Fine Gael Spokesperson on Tourism and Sport, Alan Dillon TD, has welcomed the clarity provided by the GAA on the various activities associated with Gaelic games.

From this Monday (June 7), a further easing will take place allowing greater activity for Gaelic games, including club and inter-county, with 100 spectators allowed to attend games in addition to players, team personnel, stewards and media.

Where capacity of 5,000 exists, 200 spectators can attend. These are likely to increase from Monday, July 5, depending on Public Health progress in broader society.

Deputy Dillon said: “It is great to see the GAA communicating this update to Clubs and Counties providing much needed clarity for our Gaelic Games. While the primary focus will be on the numbers of spectators allowed to watch our games, there are other areas where activity can resume.

"In particular, the resumption of drive-in events such as cinemas and bingo which take place on club or county grounds can resume from Monday, June 7. This also includes family fun days and fundraising events.”

Deputy Dillon concluded: “I welcome the pro-active approach being taken by the GAA to ensure the continued adherence to Public Health guidelines and ensuring the safety of all involved in our Gaelic Games. Many of us will look forward to bringing a greater atmosphere back to our Gaelic grounds around Mayo and further afield.

"Dressing rooms are to remain closed and club or county gyms are advised to remain closed. Despite these limitations, this is a step in the right direction and particularly as we enter the peak summer months.”
